New Delhi, Aug 27 : In a new announcement, the government declared that after retirement the Chief Justice of India will be provided with an assistant at home chauffeur, a chauffeur, and an assistant to the secretarial service for life when he or she retires from the post.The following staff members will be placed with the Chief Justice who has retired throughout his life from the time of the establishment of the Supreme Court or a High Court with full allowances and pay that is available for regular employees of the Supreme Court — domestic help chauffeur, secretaryarial assistant, and domestic assistant.
“A retired Chief Justice will have the right to a security guard around the clock at home in addition to a round the clock security guards for an amount of 5 years starting from the date of retirement.A retired judge will be eligible for a security guard around the clock at home in addition to the round clock security guards for a time of three years from the date of retirement,” said the notification that was issued on Friday by the Department of Justice in the Union Law Ministry.
The notice stated that the Supreme Court Judges Rules have been amended to provide additional benefits post-retirement for retired CJIs and Apex court judges.The rules were previously changed on August 23rd.
The notice said: “If a retired Chief Justice or retired judge has been given with an enhanced security due to the fact of perception of threat, the security that is provided at a higher grade will continue.A Chief Justice retired will be entitled to free type VII apartment in Delhi (other than the designated the official residence) for the period of six months from the date of retirement.”
Retired CJI and Apex court judges will be given ceremony lounges at airports.The announcement, made earlier in the month, and will continue.
“A retired Chief Justice or retired judge is entitled to a residential telephone at no cost of cost , and also reimbursement of costs for calls of residential or mobile phone, or mobile data data cards not exceeding Rs 4200 per month, plus taxes.” was the announcement.
It further states: “The post-retirement benefits under this rule will be available to the Chief Justice who is retired or retired judge, in the absence of such facilities availed by any High Court or from any other government body in which the Chief Justice who is retired or retired Judge has been appointed to any position after retirement.”
On August 23rd on August 23, the Centre had changed the Supreme Court Judges (Salaries and Conditions of Service) Act 1958 to provide additional post-retirement benefits for Chief justices who have retired and Supreme Court judges.
