Bhopal 2 September : Students in the level of Class 2 in all public and private schools in Madhya Pradesh will not be assigned homework in the state school education department announced in its latest guidelines concerning the reduction of the burden of school bags.The notice released this week, and released on Friday, urged parents to ensure that the students carry backpacks for school of weights as specified by the department and to monitor the homework assigned to students.
The rules are in conformity with National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and Ministry of School Education, the notice reads.
The guidelines also stated that school authorities need to make sure that the students will be allowed to be in the school without bags at least once per week.
The department of education for the district is responsible for monitoring the load of school bags following the period of three months.
It also states that students should not own additional textbooks than those required by the state government and National Council for Educational and Research Training (NCERT).
The guidelines also mention homework assignments for students at different levels, beginning with the absence of homework for children until Class 2, and up to 2 hours of homework each day for kids in classes 9-12.
For children in classes 3 4, and 5 the minimum of 2 hours of homework per week must be allowed, it is can be added.
“Schools must display the bag weight charts on their noticeboard as well as in the classrooms.The school diaries should be included in the weight of the bag.The school management committee must create timetables for students to ensure that they do not have to carry all the books every day and that the weight of their bags at school doesn’t exceed the specified limit,” the notification read.
Schools are also being requested to keep their books, workbooks, and other essential items for students until the age of 8 in the classrooms only.
It further stated that subjects such as Computer Moral Education and General Science Physical Education, Health Arts and Sports should be taught without the use of books as well as school bags must be lightweight and comfortable onto shoulders of students.
