By Hamza Ameer Islamabad 21 Aug : The former Pakistan Premier as well as Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan was arrested for hurling open threats at the top police officials and an female judge and the state institutions as well as bureaucracy during a public speech in the F-9 park in Islamabad.
Imran Khan was arrested under the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA) for fighting law enforcement and judicial authorities, an offence that is a part of the Sector 7 of the terrorist act.
“The State of Pakistan has filed a complaint against the former prime minister over his rash stance against the law enforcement agencies and the judiciary and causing obstacles in carrying out their obligations,” confirmed a source.
In his address to the public in Islamabad rally, which was carried out to protest against the arrest of the chief of staff Shahbaz Gill, Imran Khan on Saturday night uttered no words in making explicit threats to police authorities particularly ID and DIG police and DIG police of consequences for the alleged abuse of Shahbaz Gill.
“IGP and DIG! We will not forget us,” said Imran Khan.
Imran Khan also lashed out at Additional Sessions Judge Zeba Chaudhry over his bias against PTI.Judge Zeba Chaudhry is the same judge who handed down the two-day physical remand of Shahbaz Gill and directed police officials to transfer the accused to Adiala Jail, Rawalpindi.
“Zeba! Be prepared, we’ll have a legal action against you.” declared Imran Khan making an explicit threat to the female judge of severe consequences.
The remarks of Imran Khan spurred the state to take action and file the First Investigation Report (FIR) against Imran Khan, and to arrest Imran Khan in accordance with the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA).
Pakistan Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah said, “Imran Khan would be held accountable for his threats to the police and judiciary and adding that he will be dealt with according to the law.”
Some sources within the government have also suggested the creation of conjoint teams of police commandos for detention of Imran Khan as soon as possible.
“The government is conducting legal consultations on whether to file a separate legal case against Imran Khan over his provocative remarks.This is taking place in the continuation of an offensive following the Lasbela incident where six soldiers were murdered following Gill’s attempt inspire army ranks to oppose their top commander, and then Imran threating an women judge as well as police officers for not performing their duties in accordance with the laws,” said Rana Sanaullah.
Imran Khan’s speech has been a catalyst for the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) to take note of the situation and issue an immediate ban on the live broadcasts of Imran Khan’s public speeches.
PEMRA has instructed all television channels to stop telecasting any kind of content in any way that could be considered to be against state institutions.
“It is noticed that PTI Chairman Imran Khan in his speeches or statements, in continuously targeting state institutions, launching baseless allegations and propagating hatred through his provocative statements about officers and institutions of the state that are detrimental to the preservation of law and order, and could disturb the peace and tranquility of the public,” read a notice issued from PEMRA to all channels on television.
It is possible Imran Khan’s uncompromising position against the establishment, law enforcement and judiciary authorities and the decision of the ruling government to pursue him may create a political stalemate in the nation with those who are supporters of Imran Khan going out in the streets to protest and stop authorities from arresting the popular leader.
