The police are still in the dark about the theft of more than 165 file from Tripura Police Headquarters

Agartala 18 August : While Tripura’s political circles have been shaken with the loss of 165 files from the high-security Tripura Police headquarters here, the police have yet to find out the motive of the incident which occurred in the night of Monday and Tuesday.
Police have arrested five individuals in the connection with the incident.

The files that were stolen belong to the Crime Branch of the police.The Tripura Police headquarters is guarded by the most elite Tripura State Rifles.

A top police official claimed the files intended to be used for weeding and destruction of various illegal installations and cultivations as well as some dormant files that were kept in an unoccupied cabin of the police headquarters were taken and damaged by miscreants in the night of Monday and Tuesday.

“An FIR was filed on Tuesday in West Agartala police station.

Police immediately began an investigation and most of the files that were stolen were recovered.Five suspects in the incident have been arrested to date,” officer-in-charge of the Agartala police station Subrata Chakraborty said to IANS.

A top police officer of the headquarters stated that they have yet to determine the exact motives for the “mysterious crime”.

“However we are pursuing our investigation in progress to find out the motive and motive of the theft.

Security of the PHQ is being examined to prevent repetition in the future.The appropriate action is being taken in case of security breach,” the official told IANS and refused to reveal the identity of the person.

In the meantime the opposition Congress leader Sudip Roy Barman has demanded an investigation of an active High Court judge into the “unprecedented theft”.

Additionally the opposition leader and former Chief Minister Manik Sarkar in a letter addressed to the Chief Minister Manik Saha has demanded a top-level inquiry into the matter.
