New Delhi, Aug 25 : The Congress on Thursday claimed that as a result of the economic policies of the Narendra Modi government, the burden on the nation has increased by a significant amount and each Indian is in debt of more than Rs 1 lakh.
At at a press conference, the spokesperson for the party Gourav Vallabh stated: “One of the most troubling aspects is the growing debt pattern.The outstanding external and internal debt and other obligations of the Central government at the end of 2022-2023 is estimated to be approximately 152.17 lakh crore which is compared to 55.9 lakh crore at the close of 2013-14.Thus, the our per capita debt has increased from Rs 43,124 (March 31 2014) to Rs 1,09,000 (an increase of 152 % in the nine years preceding).”

He also claimed that the debt “being handed out as a gift to a few acquaintances of the government is creating a tense situation for the nation in addition to the burden of the obligations to pay for national debt”.In a discussion of NDTV, he also claimed that one person was being offered loans by banks in response to government pressure.

“Who from the government is putting pressure on banks like the SBI to make loans of these magnitudes, placing the economy of the nation and banks in a huge risk? Why is SEBI and the Finance Ministry and SEBI sitting in a stalemate during the whole hostile acquisition of a major news channel? What’s the Modi government’s strategy to protect the economy and certain sectors from collateral damage and cascading effects in the event of default or delay in repayment of loans .?” he asked.
