Sofia 29 August : Bulgarian police have stopped 141 immigrants from entering the country without permission.This is the most number of admitted attempts to enter the country has recorded in one day since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic.Police reported that 141 people were involved in the incident on Sunday.They also said they would increase security along the border with Turkey, according to the dpa news agency.
A group of 88 Afghan migrants were travelling on a bus that was registered in North Macedonia.The bus was stopped by police in Burgas which is which is a Black Sea port.
Another set of 53 Afghans were discovered in a forest close to Burgas in the area of Burgas, and are believed to be waiting for transportation.
The border also serves as an external European Union border and is one of the borders that are most targeted by those who want to flee from regions of conflict to get to the EU.
Many of them view Bulgaria as a transit nation that is on the way to the more prosperous regions of the union economic.
