Japan’s police chief resigns following the Abe assassination

Tokyo 25th August : Itaru Nakamura, Japan’s police chief announced his resignation Thursday, stating that he was ready to accept the blame for the inadequate security provided for former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, who was shot dead in broad daylight last month.
“As we continue to move forward with new security measures, it’s normal to approach the issue with new groupings of individuals,” Nakamura told reporters here.

The former leader, who was 67, was shot in the back with a close-range gun by an ex-military officer with an at-home gun during a speech in Nara, the Nara city of Nara on the 8th of July.

The assassination shocked the nation recognized for its low crime rate and rigorous gun laws.

The chief of police resigned after he released a report on the incident.

The report states that an officer commissioned by the Tokyo Metropolitan Police as well as a number of local police officers were in the immediate area of Abe at the time of the incident.

The perpetrator was able to sneak up on Abe from behind and not be noticed and pull his weapon out of an arm bag and then fire two rounds at the politician who is conservative.
