New Delhi, Aug 25 : Top scientist Samir V.Kamat was named as the new Chairperson of the Defence Research and Development Organisation.Kamat, currently Director General Naval Systems & Materials at the DRDO who succeeds G.Satheesh Reddy, who will be the Scientific Advisor to the Minister of Defence.
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet approved the appointment of Kamat as Secretary, Defence Research and Development and DRDO Charman as Secretary, Defence Research and Development, as of the date of his appointment until he attains the age of 60 or until the next order, whichever comes earlier and the appointment of Reddy as a Scientific Adviser to the Defence Minister.
Reddy was appointed the director of the DRDO in August of 2018.
In August of 2020, he received a two-year extension in the position.
