Bengaluru 8th August : In the wake of the verdict of the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) that the property of Idgah Maidan is owned by the department of revenue of the state government, Hindu activists are now calling for the removal of the tower located at the site that has been criticized.Vishwa Sanatan Parishat President Bhaskaran on Monday stated that if there was an announcement that Idgah Maidan is a property of the state government so why is there an Idgah tower in Idgah Maidan of the Chamarajpet area of Bengaluru.
“We are fighting over this issue since the year 2017.Muslims have been granted an independent Idgah Maidan and kabristan (funeral ground) by the state government.
If they insist to hold prayers in this area and stake a claims, then their motive is clear. They do not want any other community to have the use of the property.” he said.
“The state government has allocated an alternative location for Idgah Maidan even though Muslims didn’t have the previous Idgah Maidan due to the fact that they too are citizens of this country,” he said.
“We will send an email to BBMP and the state government, and as well, file a petition with the High Court making the state government and the revenue department parties to demolish the Idgah towers,” Bhaskaran explained.
“If Idgah tower is allowed to remain there, now part of the property of the revenue department, it could cause an ongoing problem and cause communal conflicts. It could lead to deaths of Hindus. We’ve all heard about the violence that erupted after a laser light flashed onto the inside of a mosque in the Ganesh celebrations in Hubballi city. This is why the Idgah tower should be destroyed in the interests of society.” he added.
Discussing the Wakf Board going to court to challenge the BBMP’s decision Bhaskaran stated that the Wakf board as well as the Muslim Central Board were not even parties when the Supreme Court gave its order in 1965.If they do approach the court and are raped, they will be by the judge, Bhaskaran said.
Idgah towers will be an obstacle in the celebration of Hindu celebrations, he added.
In the meantime, Muslim leaders have stated that Idgah tower is home to hundreds of years of history and “what will be the benefits from the demolishment of Idgah tower.
If the ground is used for other purposes, that’s acceptable, but why would you want to pursue the destruction,” they ask.
Wakf Board Chairman Shafi Saadi has stated that the board was going to wage an legal battle to challenge the decision of BBMP.”The Supreme Court has given an opinion in 1965 that Idgah maidan is the property of the Wakf board and that the decision is not valid and the ruling is in contempt of the court,” he had stated.
