Rome 19th August : Coronavirus in Italy’s rate is rising once more after the trend of a month of declines. It has risen by 14.4 percent in the past week.Italy is the very first European nation to be struck with the Covid-19 pandemic, witnessed the volume of cases increase from mid-June to mid July and then drop until the end of the week – the most recent of the series of outbreaks of infection that have afflicted the country.
The latest figures from Italy’s Health Ministry showed more than 27,000 new infections in the last day of the week which was less than the 36,000 reported on Wednesday, but more than triple rates of less than 10,000 infections in the days leading up to Tuesday.Xinhua news agency said.
For the week that ended on Wednesday, the total number of infections increased by 14.4 percent. On Thursday, the positive rate – the percent of coronavirus tests performed that were positive increased to 16.3 from 15.8 percent.
The rate of mortality per day is also increasing with 147 deaths on Thursday, which is up from 128 on Wednesday 70 on Tuesday and 42 on Monday.
The fluctuating rate of infection this summer has had lower peak levels than during the massive increase in infections that began in the end of 2021 and continuing into the beginning of February, when the number of infections per day reached 200,000 at least three times.
However mortality rates, despite being increasing, are much lower than the daily highs of more than 400 since the beginning of this year, and close to 1,000 in two major pandemic outbreaks in 2020.
The rate of vaccination in Italy is one of the highest in the European Union.According to the latest figures as of Thursday, 94.1 per cent of Italy’s population above the age of 12 years old had been completely vaccinated or recovered from a coronavirus-related infection in the past six months, thereby giving them a natural immunity.
