The talks took place after the Indian Air Force countered Chinese attempts to provoke in the eastern Ladakh region by ignoring the airspace and confidence-building measurement lines in which both sides must fly fighter aircraft within 10 km of the Line of Actual Control (LAC).
Sources from the government have told IANS: “During the military talks in the talks, the Indian side strongly opposed Chinese flights for more than one month in the east Ladakh sector and demanded that they not engage in such provocative actions.” The talks also occur at a time China is experiencing tensions with many countries including the US due to a high-profile US head’s visit to Taiwan and the firing of ballistic missiles in the Japanese Exclusive Economic Zone.

The discussions between the two sides comprised representatives from the air force of both sides, along with the representatives of the army.

The Indian Air Force was represented by Air Commodore Amit Sharma of the Operations Branch, while an officer of similar grade in the Air Force of the People’s Liberation Army was present for the discussions.

Sources claimed that sources claimed that the Indian Army was represented by an officer of the rank of Major General in the Fire and Fury Corps led by Lieutenant General A Sengupta.

The Chinese have been expressing their displeasure of the Indian Air Force upgrading its capabilities in Tibet to spot Chinese Air Force aircraft operating in their territory. The conflict between the two forces started on the 25th of June when an PLAAF J-11 fighter plane flew close to an area of friction in the eastern part of Ladakh at about four p.m.and was detected by both men on the ground, as well as by radars.

Chinese activities in the front of the Chumar sector lasted for more than one month. The Indian Air Force retaliated strongly by conducting a search of its fighter jets, such as Mirage 2000 and MiG-29, from its forward positions close to the Ladakh region.

Sources claimed that China did not anticipate this kind of reaction from the Indian Air Force which was prepared to take on any incident of the PLAAF.

They added that during this time , the Indian Air Force is also taking steps to ensure that there isn’t any escalation on the ground, and at the same time, their air movements are also being monitored.

India as well as China are currently holding 16 rounds of conversations at the level of Corps Commanders to ease tensions which was created when China tried to alter the status quo in the LAC in 2020.

So so far, officials of the ITBP and the Ministry of External Affairs are involved in the talks facilitated by the Commanding Officer of the Fire and Fury Corps from the Indian side.

Both sides have succeeded in solving the three points of friction in the eastern region of Ladakh and are currently having discussions to come up with solutions to the Hot Springs area as well.
