The Andhra Pradesh High Court has suspended GO No:2 issued by the AP state government.The GO No:2 states the transfer of powers of the Panchayat and Sarpanch Secretaries to the VROs.The Amravati High Court, which heard the case today, gave a big blow to the YCP govt.The Sarpanch Krishnamohan of Turakapalem in Guntur District has challenged the AP state govt GO No:2 in the AP High Court.
Advocate Narra Srinivas heard arguments on behalf of the petitioner.He told the court that there was a GO against the amendment of Article 73 of the Indian Constitution and the AP Panchayati Raj Act.The High Court questioned how the powers of the Panchayat and Sarpanch Secretaries could be vested in VROs.
The pro-government lawyer told the court that the VRO system was set up to bring welfare schemes closer to the people.
The tribunal, after considering the arguments of both, dismissed the GO No:2 issued by the AP state government.
The AP government on March 25, 2021, transferred some of the powers of village sarpanches and panchayat secretaries to VROs.
However, after hearing from both, the High court dismissed GO No:2.
