CM Jagan asks officials to Focus on Health and Malnutrition in State

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has urged officials to make sure that individuals suffering from anaemia and malnutrition are identified and provided with nourishing food and medicines through the YSR Jagananna Arogya Suraksha program.

During a meeting with the women and child welfare department, Jagan Mohan Reddy emphasized the need for regular haemoglobin tests for pregnant women, infants, and children.

He instructed officials to closely monitor the Anganwadi system’s performance to achieve the goals of YSR Sampoorna Poshana.He also stressed the importance of creating strong Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for efficient supervision and ensuring the quality of dry ration distribution.

The chief minister highlighted, “The health department will be responsible for providing medicines to anaemic patients and those identified with malnutrition in the Jagananna Aarogya Suraksha camps.The women and child welfare department will provide them with nutritious meals.”

He emphasized the importance of consistent monitoring to track progress and ensure that anaemic patients are benefiting from the nutritious food provided, aiming to completely eliminate anaemia in rural areas.

Jagan Mohan Reddy further stated that it is crucial to identify children and pregnant women who missed vaccinations, involving Auxiliary Nurse Midwives (ANMs) in the process.

He emphasized the need to identify underweight children and take necessary steps to improve their weight through nutritious food.It is also essential to register their details in the app to provide them with the necessary support.

“The Health department should communicate the details to the women and child welfare department for the timely supply of nutritious food,” he added.

The chief minister urged the need for monthly awareness camps on emerging diseases and steps to overcome them due to lifestyle changes.

Additionally, he stressed conducting haemoglobin tests on children, pregnant women, and lactating mothers every month.

Present at the meeting were Women and Child Welfare Minister Ushasri Charan, Principal Secretary Jayalakshmi, Commissioner M Janaki, Finance Secretary KVV Satyanarayana, APDDCF MD Ahmed Babu, School Education Commissioner (Infrastructure) K Bhaskar, APSCSC Managing Director Veerapandian, and Health and Family Welfare Commissioner J Nivas.
