Kerala women panel member faces questions over educational qualifications

Thiruvananthapuram : , Shahida Kamal, a member of Kerala Women Commission, appears to be in a quandary over her education qualifications.A division bench of Lok Ayukta asked her for her degrees and certificates on Thursday to prove her honesty and integrity.
Kamal was in trouble after Akhila Khan, a resident of the state capital, approached him after she made a complaint to the state government.The police also accused Kamal of giving false education qualifications during contesting elections.Kamal’s application to become a member to the Commission did not receive any response.

Kamal claims she has a PhD.However, in a TV channel debate a few months ago, the complainant stated that her educational qualifications weren’t correct.

Kamal mentioned on her Facebook page that she received her D.Litt through the International Open University.All those who have received it use Dr before their names.

Kamal replied to Lok Ayukta by stating that she holds a doctorate of philosophy from the Kazakhstan Open University.The state Social Justice Department had previously stated that her doctorate was from the University of Vietnam.

The Lok Ayukta has posted the case for December 9, and she was asked to submit her certificates.She did not produce them on Thursday.

Kamal was a candidate for the 2009 Lok Sabha poll in Kasargode, as well as the 2011 Assembly elections.She ran on a Congress ticket.

She quit the party several years later, unhappy with the Congress for not giving Kamal a safe seat.She joined the CPI-M, and was rewarded by being made a member of KWC, which comes along with many perks.
