An Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) court in Vijayawada in Andhra Pradesh on Sunday, 10 September, remanded TDP chief and former state chief minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu for 14 days.
The court was hearing a petition for the dismissal of Naidu’s remand report, which the CID filed on Sunday in connection with Naidu’s arrest.
Naidu was arrested in Nandyal at daybreak on Saturday, and was brought to the office of the CID’s Special Investigation Team (SIT) in Vijayawada by road at about 6 pm the same day.
After his arrival, the CID cops grilled him till late into the night in connection with his alleged role in the ₹371-crore skill development scam, which is said to have taken place when he was the chief minister of the state between 2014 and 2019.
Naidu’s team is expected to move a bail petition following his remand to judicial custody on Sunday.Naidu’s arrest is expected to elicit strong reactions from TDP leaders and cadres against the Jagan Mohan Reddy government in Andhra Pradesh.
As the TDP went through nerve-racking anxiety over what would happen to Naidu as the charges framed by the CID against him were very grave, the tension was palpable in Vijayawada throughout the day.
The TDP tried to evoke sympathy from the people by stating that the CID officials were heartless as they produced Naidu in court on his 42nd wedding anniversary.
