Madrid, Nov 24, : , Manchester United beat Villarreal 2-0 thanks to goals by Jadon Sancho and Cristiano Ronaldo.They are now in the 16th round of the Champions League.Tuesday night’s win comes three days after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was fired.For most of the game, United were second to Villarreal.
Villarreal dominated the ball but was beaten by David de Gea who made several excellent saves.
Michael Carrick, the caretaker coach, made four changes to the 4-1 defeat at Watford November 20, which cost Solskjaer’s job.Donny van der Beek, Anthony Martial and Fred Telles were his starting 11.
Xinhua reports that Villarreal’s Danjuma and Pervis Estupinan, Moi Gomez, and Yeremy Pino were all back.Villarreal started strongly, with Gomez drawing a smart stop from David de Gea before Yeremy scored into the side netting.De Gea was again called upon as Villarreal dominated and Yeremy set up Manu Trigueros for a shot that the Manchester United keeper did well to parry.
As the half ended, United was more involved in the game with Ronaldo heading Telles’s cross directly at Geronimo Rulli in Villarreal’s goal.
The second half started slowly, but Villarreal took over and began passing through the United midfield.
De Gea was able to grab Mio Gomez’s deflected shot before Danjuma scored.
Carrick made a double change with Bruno Fernandes, Marcos Rashford and Martial.Jadon Sancho forced Rulli to save after exchanging passes.
United’s performance improved after the changes.Ronaldo scored United’s 12th minute lead after Rulli & Capoue had made a mess with the ball at the back.Fred was able to challenge them and the ball fell kindly for Ronaldo to score.
Sancho secured the win with a great goal in the final minute.The winner completed a quick break with a powerful shot from just outside the penalty area to end the crisis at least in Europe.
