New Delhi/Agartala, August 21 : The Opposition Congress on Sunday demanded the imposing of president’s rule in the state of BJP-ruled Tripura in the state, claiming “Super Jungle Raj” prevails in Tripura.AICC in charge of Tripura, Nagaland, Sikkim Ajoy Kumar and Tripura Congress leaders, while speaking with the media in Delhi was also demanding an investigation into all incidents against opposition workers and party leaders that were carried out by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers in the last five years by a judge sitting in the High Court.
The Congress for the first time, has demanded the President’s supremacy in Tripura.
“The Prime Minister should be able to be able to explain in the Lok Sabha why the political opposition in Tripura are targeted for violence from the BJP? In the evening of Saturday night, BJP workers attacked a Congress leader’s residence in Jirana (in the west of Tripura) with a bulldozer,” Kumar said.
Congress chief Sudip Roy Barman, the only MLA of the party in Tripura in Tripura, quoting figures of Tripura police department, said that during the 52-month administration of the BJP 604 murders, 678 riots 6,44 kidnappings and 1,778 instances of theft were reported.
He stated: “BJP workers and party-backed anti-social elements carried out life-threatening attacks against me seven times.State party president Birajit Sinha as well as the former state party president Gopal Roy and the former MLA Ashish Saha, and many of Congress members were targeted by BJP activists multiple times since the party’s ruling faction is determined to take down all the best state Congress leaders.”
Barman who resigned from the BJP in the spring of this year and was elected as a state legislator with the Congress ticket for the sixth time in the by-polls held on June 23 Barman, who resigned from the BJP earlier this year, stated that the situation of law and order in Tripura is terrible that important files from the state police’s headquarters and 450 files from the department of education were snatched in order to “protect” important BJP ministers and leaders.
AICC Secretary Szarita Laitphlang stated that a very serious situation is currently in the air in Tripura that all citizens of India should be aware to.
“The gradual death of democracy is taking place in the northern part of India.When any incident or attack was committed against workers of the opposition party the police as well as the security personnel have been passive spectators to the violence spectacle,” she said.
The Congress leader also said that the regular assaults on women continue, as they are abused physically.
“The administration is refusing to make complaints against perpetrators since they are protected.Over 43 journalists have been physically assaulted , and in many cases, they’ve been threatened because of their impartial reporting.
There have been no arrests to date in any of the instances.The offices of three to four media houses in Agartala were burned down in August in the year 2000, September of last year as well as in the month of May,” the AICC Secretary said.
The Congress leaders also spoke about how other party leaders , including the former Chief Minister Manik Sarkar were targeted by BJP workers and party-backed goons many times.
