In a strategic move to weaken the Congress party, the ruling BRS is making concerted efforts to attract leaders from the Reddy community. This is happening alongside Ministers KT Rama Rao and T Harish Rao actively working to bring them into the BRS fold.
Traditionally, the Congress has had a significant presence of leaders from the Reddy community.Given that TPCC chief A Revanth Reddy also hails from this community, there have been talks of a potential gathering of Reddy leaders.
Sources reveal that the BRS leadership believes that the unity of Reddy leaders could lead to a concentration of votes in many constituencies, especially given their substantial financial backing. The ruling party isn’t taking any chances, especially as a few Reddy leaders have departed in recent times.
Over the past few days, several leaders from the Reddy community have joined the BRS.This includes former MLA P Shashidhar Reddy, who joined in the presence of Harish Rao.Alongside Shashidhar Reddy, several other leaders from the Congress party have also made the switch.
Most recently, Medak DCC president Kanthareddy Tirupati Reddy joined the ruling party.
He was vying for a ticket from Medak constituency in the upcoming election. However, upon hearing rumors that the ticket might go to Mynampally Hanumanth Rao’s son Rohit, he decided to leave the party and join the BRS.Similarly, Shyamsundar Reddy from Alair constituency also made the switch.
In the latest development, Uppal Congress leader Singireddy Somashekhar Reddy has also resigned. He is the husband of AS Rao Nagar corporator Singireddy Sirisha Reddy. It’s understood that BRS leaders are making efforts to persuade him to join their ranks.
Additionally, BRS leaders are actively reaching out to BC leaders from the Congress. While they’ve managed to secure the resignation of senior Congress leader Ponnala Lakshmaiah, they are also pursuing other potential additions.
Sources indicate that the BRS working president personally encouraged Lakshmaiah to make the move.
