Caracas 10th September : Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro announced the reopening of the border on the 26th of September of the border that separates his country from neighboring Colombia. “I am very pleased to announce that as of 26th September, we will be able to open our borders jointly between Venezuela and Colombia,” Maduro posted on Twitter on Friday.
Flights departing from the capital Caracas and also the northern city of Valencia in the capital of Colombia Bogota will also be resumed, he added.
“The exchange and cooperation between our peoples is beginning to get off to a great beginning,” said Maduro, who on Thursday was greeted by the Colombian Minister of Commerce, Industry and Tourism Dario Umana Mendoza at the headquarters of the government.
Colombian President Gustavo Petro on Friday also confirmed the opening of the border stating that “as the first step the connection to air and cargo transportation between the two countries will returned”.
The Colombian ambassador in Caracas, Armando Benedetti said that restoring diplomatic relations with Venezuela required “reviewing the infrastructure of bridges and roads” and that it was essential to “reactivate trade” and exchange in other areas.
