New Delhi, Sep 7 : The Union Cabinet on Thursday approved the centrally-sponsored scheme to establish over 14,000 PM Shri schools (PM Schools for Rising India) across the nation.The Union Minister for Education Dharmendra Pradhan told mediapersons after the Cabinet meeting that the program that was approved following discussions with all states, will help strengthen existing schools, ranging from those managed by the Central government, state governments , and local bodies.
In the scheme which has an estimated total amount of 27.360 crore over the next five years the Centre will provide 60 percent of the funds, while states will be responsible for the remaining 40, Pradhan said.
With the Cabinet’s approval of the scheme the scheme will begin to be implemented starting in the current fiscal year the minister said.
The portal is developed to monitor the progress of students and improve transparency in school administration, he said.
Under thisplan, 2 crore for each school will be allocated over five years.The funds will be distributed directly to schools, the minister explained in addition to stating that the Central government will be monitoring the transfer and use of funds by schools.
The PM Shri schools are expected to show the implementation of National Education Policy 2020 and emerge as schools that are exemplary according to sources from the government.
They will result in people who are well-rounded and holistic.
The teaching method will be more interactive and integrated, and also driven by discovery sources say.
Pradhan said that nearly all the states are in agreement to implement the scheme.
