Experts said that the increasing threats to projects in the multi-trillion Belt and Road Initiative and the recent attacks against Chinese expatriates has increased the importance of Chinese Private Security Companies.
India Narrative was told by an unnamed analyst that “the PSCs have been growing in number and importance, and with the shifting global environment, their roles will only increase.” He said, “It’s therefore essential to understand how these companies are structured.”

An international framework, not just Chinese, is required to define the operations of any PSC.

According to estimates, there may be around 7000 Chinese PSCs currently in operation.

Modern Diplomacy is an opinion platform that reported last year on the importance of understanding these PSCs’ intricacies and monitoring their relationships with China.

The PLA will continue to be the largest and most powerful projection of Chinese nation power. It stated that PSCs could be a feasible replacement for low-intensity missions in such situations.

Although the Chinese PSCs are not among the most highly ranked in the world, their growing presence and expanding roles have attracted attention.

China Security and Protection Group and Frontier Services Group are just a few examples of prominent Chinese PSCs that have overseas operations.

A Voice of America report recently revealed that, as Chinese citizens face increasing security threats and BRI initiatives, there’s a rising trend for them to choose their own PSCs over Western-based private security firms.

It’s not just this.China wants to make investments in Taliban-ruled Afghanistan.Uncertainty regarding security remains a concern.

Meia Nouwens (Senior Fellow for Chinese Defence Policy and Military Modernisation, International Institute for Strategic Studies, IISS), stated in a blog that Beijing has not yet put PLA troops on the ground after watching the US and NATO military operations in Afghanistan for the last 20 years. She wrote that China is likely to leverage an existing resource, which is Chinese private security companies (PSCs) in the Belt and Road Initiative’s high-risk environment projects.
