After the B737 Max that was operated by Ethiopian Airlines crashed to the ground, 346 people were killed in March 2019, South Korea placed a ban against the B737 Max.

In October 2018, another B737 Max was flown by Lion Air in Indonesia, killing all 189 passengers.

The Ministry reports that after a yearlong investigation of B737 Max aircrafts and the collection of opinions from experts in aviation, the ministry concluded there were no safety concerns.

The 737 Max planes flew over 506,330 hours since November 2013.There have not been any safety issues and the total flights amounted to 206,856.

The angle of attack sensor (AOA) was a defective sensor that caused the planes to automatically descend and plummet.

Boeing took on the responsibility of improving the overall mechanism, which includes the AOA sensors, cockpit computer, and software.

In 179 countries, the ban on flying the 737 Max was lifted. The plane was put into service by 31 airlines in 22 countries earlier this month.

South Korea’s only 737 Max-operating carrier is Eastar Jet.It is a low cost carrier that is currently in court.

After having delayed plans due to safety concerns, Korean Air Lines Co.and budget carriers Jeju Air Co.as well as T’way Air Co.are likely to bring the model into their fleet.
