Al-Azawi stated that four IS militants were killed in airstrikes.
Al-Azawi stated that airstrikes were launched after Iraqi security had begun a large offensive early in the morning to kill IS militants in Himreen mountains range.
He also said that they will keep fighting to eradicate IS militants from this mountainous region.
According to an Iraqi army statement, earlier in the day the Iraqi security force launched an offensive that aimed at taking down IS militants and their hiding places, as well as securing Himreen’s mountain range.
The IS militants in Iraq have increased their attacks on security forces in Iraqi provinces they previously controlled over the last few months. This has left many people dead or wounded.
Since the defeat of IS by Iraqi forces in 2017, security in Iraq is improving. The IS remnants are now confined to urban areas and deserts and have been waging guerilla warfare against civilians and security forces.
