In a major setback to the BJP in Telangana ahead of the 30 November state Assembly elections, one of the noted BJP leaders in the erstwhile Warangal district, senior leader Revuri Prakash Reddy is likely to quit the saffron party and join the Congress shortly.
Revuri, a three-time former Narsampet MLA, reportedly held discussions with Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president A Revanth Reddy and expressed his willingness to join the grand old party.
With the Congress high command having already confirmed the candidature of Donti Madhava Reddy for the Narsampet constituency, in all likelihood, Revuri is expected to contest from neighbouring Parkal seat, according to sources.
Revuri’s past role in the TDP
Revanth Reddy is believed to have welcomed Revuri, a native of erstwhile Warangal district, into the party, which might help the Congress during the elections in the region.
After quitting the TDP, Revuri joined the BJP in New Delhi in September 2019.He started his career with the TDP in the early 1980s.
He was elected an MLA three times from Narsampet constituency in Warangal.
He worked as party president for a long time and was also a member of the TDP Politburo, the main think-tank of the party, till he quit.
He served as Public Accounts Committee chairman in united Andhra Pradesh.
Revuri is to join the Congress on October 18 during Rahul Gandhi’s visit to the historic Ramappa Temple, UNESCO’s World Heritage Site, in Mulugu district, revealed by a close associate of Revuri.
He said that Revuri is joining the Congress in the wake of BJP’s falling graph.
Although Revuri has extensive links with the people in Parkal constituency, he has a herculean task ahead of him to familiarise with the Congress cadre.
It may be mentioned here that the ruling BRS renominated Challa Dharma Reddy as its candidate.
