New Delhi, Aug 23 : The Centre has modified the Supreme Court Judges (Salaries and Conditions of Service) Act, 1958 for offering additional benefits post-retirement for retired Chief Justices as well as Supreme Court judges.
Judges who are retired from the Supreme Court will be entitled to a free Type-VII apartment in Delhi (other that the official residence) for an amount of six months starting from the date of retirement.”A retired Chief Justice or retired judge shall be eligible for a security cover for their residence round the clock in addition to a round the clock personal security guards for an amount of one year beginning on the date of retirement,” said the notification issued by the Ministry of Law and Justice.

The judges will receive the services of a chauffeur (equivalent to the role of a chauffeur in the Supreme Court) and a secretary assistant (equivalent to the position of branch officers in the Supreme Court) shall be assigned with retired chief justice and retired Supreme Court judge from the date of retirement for a period of one year.

In rule 4 the following provision was added: “Provided that a retired Chief Justice is entitled to a rent-free Type VII residence in Delhi (other other than the official residence designated) for the period of six months after the date of retirement.”

The notification also stated that retired Chief Justices or retired judge will be granted courtesies in the ceremonial lounges of airports.
