New Delhi, November 18 : .Pakistan will shortly communicate to India its decision on humanitarian wheat shipment to Afghanistan through the Wagah border.
This is after the relevant authorities have finalized the details, Express Tribune reported.
A senior official from the government told The Express Tribune that “the decision will soon be announced,” while remaining anonymous.
India announced last month that it would send 50,000 tonnes of wheat to Afghanistan in humanitarian aid.Pakistan was asked to transport the grain via Wagah.
At the moment, Pakistan allows Afghanistan only to export to India. However, it does not allow for any other trade across its border.
The report stated that Pakistan’s Prime Minister Imran Khan told Amir Khan Muttaqi, acting Afghan Foreign Minister, last week that he would consider the request of his country’s “Afghan brothers” for the transportation of wheat through Pakistan by India for humanitarian purposes.
Muttaqi asked Imran Khan for permission to send wheat through Pakistan to India.
This suggested that the Taliban government would accept humanitarian aid from India.
Official made clear that Pakistan had never denied the possibility of wheat being transported via its territory.
He explained that many factors need to be considered, including the views of the Afghan interim government as well as logistics.
The official said that they had almost completed the arrangements and India would soon be informed about their decision.
