New Delhi, Nov 18, : .India debunked Thursday’s Pakistani law to implement the judgment of the International Court of Justice in the Kulbhushan Jadhav Case.
It cited that Pakistan still denies Jadhav unimpeded consular access.
On Wednesday, Pakistan passed a joint session of Parliament to allow Jadhav to appeal his death sentence based on the decision by the ICJ.
Arindam Bagchi, spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs said in response: “We have heard reports that Pakistan has enacted into law an earlier ordinance which was ostensibly enacted as a way to implement the judgment of the International Court of Justice(ICJ) regarding the Kulbhushan jadhav case.”
He stated that there was no other truth.
Bagchi stated that “As stated previously, the ordinance didn’t create the machinery to an effective review of Jadhav’s case as required by the judgment of the ICJ”, while pointing out the fact that the law simply codifies some of the flaws of the prior ordinance.
According to him, Pakistan still denies Jadhav unimpeded consular access and fails to provide an environment for fair trials.
India repeatedly urged Pakistan to abide in spirit and letter by the ICJ judgment.
Jadhav (a retired Indian Navy officer of 51 years) was sentenced by a Pakistani military tribunal to death in April 2017 on charges related to espionage, terrorist acts, and other crimes.
India approached the ICJ to oppose Pakistan, challenging both the death sentence and denying Jadhav consular access.
Jadhav’s mother and wife were allowed to see him through a glass partition in December 2017.India challenged Pakistan’s claims that the glass partition was consular access.
