Libyan PM announces a presidential bid

Tripoli : , Nov 22, 2012 – Abdul-Hamid Dbeibah, Libya’s Prime Minister has announced his intention to run for the presidency in next month’s elections.
Dbeibah announced the news in a televised speech.

He said he had submitted his candidacy form, according to Xinhua news agency.

He noted that “There won’t be any war and Libya will remain sovereign and unaffected.”

The UN-backed Government of National Unity (GNU) appointed Dbeibah as Prime Minister in February, by the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum (LPDF), a world-sponsored body.

As part of the LPDF’s roadmap, Libya will hold general elections on December 24, 2008.

The House of Representatives (Libya’s Parliament) approved both the Presidential Election Law in September and the parliamentary Election Law in October.

Aguila Salh, Speaker of The House of Representatives, Khalifa Haitar who led an insurgency in his eastern base against UN-backed Tripoli government; and Saif Al-Islam Gaddafi (son of late Libyan ruler Muammar Gadafi).
