K’taka creates a committee to revive transport companies

Bengaluru : , Dec 27, 2007 : .Chief Minister Basavaraj Bombmai of Karnataka stated Monday that Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation will be the largest transport organization in India by improving its services, look and ensuring the efficient utilisation human resources.
The Chief Minister gave assurances that all government support would be given to the function of inducting electric and BS-VI diesel busses into the BMTC’s services.

The Chief Minister noted that operating transport corporations without government subsidies would prove difficult.He suggested that M.R., a retired extra chief secretary, be appointed to the committee.Srinivasa Murthy was appointed to revive the transport companies.

Bommai stated that the committee will not only present its recommendations for plugging loopholes in transport corporations but also recommend ways and means of improving their service and raising resources, and so turn profit.

He also stated that a committee led by K.Jairaj, a retired chief secretary, has been established for revitalizing the Electric Supply Companies (ESCOMS).

Bommai expressed his delight at the introductions of BS-VI buses and BMTC’s plans to purchase 300 clean-running electric buses.

Bommai stated that 90 electric buses have been introduced at the moment, and would reduce the amount of air pollution.He also appealed for people to use electric cars to commute.

He spoke about the potential ways of increasing the revenue for BMTC and recalled how many city-based public sectors used to rent BMTC buses in order to transport their workers.

Bommai stated that he would talk with HAL-certified PSUs and IT companies in order to persuade them to use BMTC services.

The Chief Minister suggested that BMTC change its design and look to appeal to commuters.
