Dar Es Salaam : , Dec 14, 2014 : .At least 9 people were killed and 3 others sustained serious injuries when a van carrying newspapers crashed into a tree in Tanzania’s Southern Highlands Region of Iringa.Allan Bukumbi is the Iringa Regional Police Commander.According to Xinhua, the vehicle struck a tree in Mahenge, Kilolo District, along the Dar es Salaam–Mbeya highway, on Monday morning.
The driver failed to maneuver a sharp corner.
Bukumbi stated that the driver of the van carrying newspapers from Dar es Salaam, the commercial capital, to Mbeya was driving at high speed.
He also failed to stop the van around a corner.The accident happened at 4:00 a.m.local.
Bukumbi said four of the deceased were women and five men, adding that the injured victims were admitted to the Iringa regional government hospital.
