Dawn News reported that one of the bills adopted by the Pakistan Parliament’s joint session provides for punishment for “chemical castration,” a habitual violator.
Bill 2021, Criminal Law Amendment, seeks to amend Pakistan Penal Code, 1860 and Code of Criminal Procedure 1898.
The Wednesday bill that was passed by Congress reads, “chemical casting is a procedure duly notified by Prime Minister rules, which renders a person incapable of having sexual intercourse at any time during his lifetime, as may have been determined by the court by administering drugs through a notified mediator board.”
Jamaat-i-Islami Senator Mushtaq Ahmad protested the bill, calling it anti-Islamic as well as against Sharia.
He stated that a rapist should not be executed publicly but Dawn reported there wasn’t any mention of Sharia castration.
The joint sitting also passed the Anti-Rape (Investigation and Trial) Bill 2021.
This bill provides for special courts and the use of modern technology during the investigation and prosecution of cases of rape.
