The North’s has been closed since the outbreak of the flu virus, for almost two years, Yonhap News Agency reports.

“Signs that preparations are being made to resume trade were continuously detected,” Ministry spokesperson Lee Jongjoo stated while addressing a briefing.

Local media broadcast video earlier this month of a train crossing the Amnok River bridge connecting Sinuiju, North Korea with the Chinese port of Dandong.

The US and South Korea are co-coordinating humanitarian aid to North Korea.

However, Pyongyang remains unresponsive to Washington’s overtures to dialogue.

Lee was disappointed that there has been no progress on inter-Korean negotiations as Pyongyang remains silent about Seoul’s offer to establish a virtual conference for dialogue.

We regret that restoration of communication channels has not resulted in the establishment of infrastructure for dialogue such as video conferencing as we suggested or substantive talks in various areas.
