“Development of a robust charging network has been in tandem with an increase in EV adoption around the globe and we believe that the same trend is likely to be observed in India,” said Rohan Rao, Partner, M&A Consulting, KPMG in India.

Charging technology will vary according to different vehicle segments , and both private and public charging options will be used to serve various user segments and usage scenarios according to the report.

“2Ws and 3Ws are well to be used to AC slow charging. The battery swapping model is likely to be the most common choice for situations that require a quick charging turnarounds,” it added.

The Indian market is likely to have a large system of AC charging stations, both public and private, as well as DC chargers that are restricted to buses. There are a few cases for LCVs and 4Ws.

Based on the study, expectations for charging at home or at work are likely to differ from charging at the destination or on the go charging that may differ from charging for fleets.

“Strategic relationships for real estate partnerships and the interoperability between CPOsand service providers are essential to improve the customer experience,” the findings showed.

“With the estimated 50 million EVs on Indian roads by 2030, the chance for a pure-play charging business is huge, Rao added.
