Hambantota is the 1st SL Port to be compliant with ISO standards

Colombo, Nov 22 : Sri Lanka’s Hambantota International Port (HIP) announced that it has become the South Asian country’s first port to comply to internationally-recognized integrated management system standards.
According to Xinhua, the port in Sri Lanka’s southern region announced on Sunday that they have been awarded ISO accreditation for quality and environmental protection.

This was after a lengthy process which began in January, with an audit by Bureau Veritas Lanka taking place in July.

Ravi Jayawickrame is the CEO of Hambantota International Port Services Company.He stated that accreditation would help to “boost sales and marketing efforts, and enhance and improve employees performance.”

Jayawickrame said that it “reinforces the commitment to preserve the environment and sustain sustainability, and to protect workplace, which will prevent work-related injury and illness and provide further incentive to continuously improve our working conditions,” Jayawickrame stated.

Hambantota Port, Sri Lanka’s second-largest port after Colombo was inaugurated on November 18, 2010.
