New Delhi, December 31, : .The Food Corporation of India announced Thursday that open storage would be eliminated completely.

Instead, it will only allow CAP storage (covered and plinth), by March 2022.
Numerous cases have occurred in India, where large numbers of foodgrains were destroyed by elements.

According to the statutory body, it increased storage capacity by 695,000 metric tonnes (LMT), which includes FCI warehouses and Central Warehousing Corporations.It also included State Warehousing Corporations.

“In consultation with the Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, and Punjab governments, an action plan was developed to convert CAP with 105 LMT coverage and scientific storage.Atish Chandra, FCI CMD, stated that the work has begun.

Chandra stated that the implementation of an action plan for the evacuation of all stock in CAP by February 2022, and the discarding of open storage during rabi marketing seasons (RMS 2021-22) has begun.

FCI also participated in standardisation of storage infrastructure, and third-party evaluation of warehouses by Quality Control of India.This was done to enhance storage.

Sudhanshu Pandey (Union Food Secretary) stated that there was an unprecedented high level of procurement of wheat in RMS 2021-22.

This is an 11 percent increase over 2020.Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh (Uttarakhand), Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Gujarat and Uttarakhand all recorded the highest ever procurements.

He said that 49.19 crore farmers were able to benefit from an MSP worth more than Rs 85 603 crore.

Kharif Marketing Season (KMS 2020-21) saw an all-time high paddy procurement of 894.32 LMT.This is an increase of 15% as compared with 2020.With Punjab, Gujarat, Telangana Telangana and Jharkhand surpassing 2020, Odisha Tamil Nadu, Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha and Madhya Pradesh achieving their highest-ever procurements, he stated.

KMS 2021-22: Total of 472.47 LMT paddy were purchased up to December 29, at a MSP value greater than Rs 92 604 crore.52.21 lakh farmers have been benefited so far.

QCI was engaged by the FCI to perform a similar third-party evaluation of its warehouses.QCI also performed an assessment of QCI’s procurement operations for all 434 centers in each procuring state for paddy and wheat procurement.

Pandey stated that the modernization of warehouse assets involved steel silos capable of holding 2.875 LMT in six locations in 2021, and silos capable of handling 3.125 LMT in six other locations expected to be finished in six months.
