After film stars like Rajini Kanth, Amitabh Bachan and politicians like Mayawati, Congress party president Sonia Gandhi also got a temple built for her.Former minister and Cantonment MLA Shankar Rao today laid foundation stone for a temple of AICC president Sonia Gandhi for her efforts in formation of Telangana State.
The temple is being constructed at Nandigaon village under Kottur mandal in Mahbubnagar district.Speaking on the occasion, Shankar Rao said they were building a temple of Sonia Gandhi for her gesture of conceding Telangana State.
“We have decided to build the temple in the name of Mahakshetram and Sonia Gandhi Shantivanam’’ He said,
The land for the temple came from his own nine acres of property at Nandigama in Kotturu mandal.Further, on her birthday, Rao even decided to construct a 35 feet statue.
But BJP party activists opposed Shanakar Rao’s decision.They pointed out that due to the delay in Telangana announcement, many youngsters committed suicide and they also warned that once constructed, they will demolish the temple.
He further urged his fellow legislators to build temples in every constituency of the region as a gesture of gratitude to the Congress chief.
