Australian PM promises change in culture for female workers

Canberra 30 August : In an speech commemorating 100 days since he assumed his post, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese on Monday pledged the possibility of a “cultural transformation” to improve the working conditions of women in the workplace.
Albanese announced a shift to the “reform and renewal” agenda, as reported by Xinhua news agency.

“Government has a duty to think about the future, to create for the long-term, and to implement reforms that provide individuals with the opportunity to fulfill their full potential” he told the National Press Club (NPC).

Albanese said he had not wasted a single day in office since his leadership of the Labor Party to election victory and has taken steps to increase the emission reduction target for Australia and to increase the wages of low-paid workers.

He identified the list of Labor’s of campaign promises, which include revival of the local manufacturing industry more efficient and cleaner energy, lower costs for childcare, and better training and skills as the next priorities.

In advance of the two-day government summit on jobs, that begins on Thursday Albanese stated that “after more than 30 years in which the gender gap has not diminished”, he was hoping for a major improvements in the economic equality of women.

“This will require more than legislative changes as we require a cultural change, too,” he said.

Albanese declared that there will be issues to overcome when the summit comes to an end on Friday afternoon.

These include the trillion dollars of debt families struggling with costs of living, staff and the skills required for both small and large businesses.

“But for the first time in many years I believe that we will be coming to an agreement on how to resolve these problems, not fighting over who should be blamed,” he said.
