Google\'s New Policy To Filter Out Suspicious Ratings, Reviews On Play Store

Google’s new policy of filtering out reviews, ratings and other suspicious content on Play Store

San Francisco, Sep 11 : Tech giant Google is introducing a new review policy that will allow reviews and ratings for apps as authentic as is possible in the Play Store.
The latest update will delay user-submitted reviews and ratings for around 24 hours until they are made public, as long as they’re from real people, according to Android Central.

According to the report, the tech giant plans to implement its new policies to identify reviews and ratings that are suspicious of Android apps.

“To enable us to detect automatically suspicious Reviews or Ratings activity We are introducing an indefinite delay of approximately 24 hours from the time that users make their Ratings or Reviews to the time that they are made public,” Google was quoted as saying in an advisory.

“In this time you will be able to assist your users by observing Reviews and responding to them, however these will not be available immediately,” it added.

The report also mentioned that the policy change could aid in reducing the proliferation of fake reviews on products sold online.

The tech giant cautioned against publishing the same review several times, or reviews of the same content across multiple sites, according to the report.

The United Kingdom’s Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) initiated an investigation of Google and Amazon in the year prior to this year’s launch to determine if they “may not have done enough” to prevent fake reviews on their respective platforms.
