New York, Aug 14 : Although monkeypox cases continue to increase in the US it is possible that the virus will become widespread in wild animals in the United States as reported by the media. The US has reported more than 9,000 cases in 49 states according to the World Health Organization.
This exponential growth in the spread of monkeypox could render it virtually impossible to control and could result in it becoming an epidemic in the wild animals Dr Peter Chin-Hong an expert in infectious diseases at the University of California San Francisco was quoted in the Los Angeles Times.
“When you examine the rates of growth, you’ll see that it’s actually approaching an exponential curve.
Unfortunately it’s going to get more difficult and more difficult to manage the higher the numbers become,” Chin-Hong said.
“Hopefully we can stop this.If not it does, it could spread to other groups.”
While the disease has not claimed the lives of any people in the US However, the infection is creating extreme pain with patients experiencing difficulty eating, sleeping, walking drinking, or having to go to the bathroom.
Medical professionals have advised patients to test and be checked early to detect the illness in time to avoid further spread.
“The acne can appear quite innocent when it first appears as a pimple or an ingrown hair.
This is why it’s difficult for doctors to identify the condition,” Chin-Hong said.
“If you are able to diagnose someone they are infected, it is possible to protect them from other people (who) aren’t infected.”
In addition, the US government has announced the new strategy to increase the length of its vaccines, permitting health professionals to immunize as many as five individuals with each dose instead of one.
