Rio De Janeiro : , December 13, 2013 : .At least seven people have been killed and many more have been displaced by heavy rainfalls that hit Bahia in northeastern Brazil, according to the Regional Civil Defence.Rains caused by an extratropical stormcyclone were concentrated in Bahia’s southern region last week.They intensified on Saturday and left parts of the area submerged, causing significant damage.
The Civil Defence reported that the rainfalls affected 30 cities, resulting in seven deaths, one hundred injuries and many more displaced people, according to Xinhua.
The rainstorms left several towns and rural areas completely isolated, making it difficult for relief teams to reach them.
On Sunday, more than 200 military firefighters rescued people in affected communities with the support of two helicopters.
Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro and Governor of Bahia, Rui Falcao went to the area on Sunday and promised reconstruction aid.
