Berlin, Nov 24, : , Some German federal states support mandatory Covid-19 vaccination because of the record-breaking number of cases in the country’s ongoing fourth wave pandemic.Winfried Kretschmann, Minister-President of Baden-Wuerttemberg told ARD that “we simply cannot get around it the fact that if you want to get out from this mess, people must get vaccinated.”
Kretschmann and Markus Soeder, Bavarian Minister-President, wrote an article for Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung in which they argued that compulsory vaccination was not a violation or restriction of freedom rights, but a prerequisite for regaining freedom.Xinhua news agency reports that Kretschmann also wrote an article for the newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung.
The number of daily infections has surpassed 65,000 for the first week since the outbreak of the pandemic.The Robert Koch Institute (RKI), an institute for infectious diseases, registered 45,326 Covid cases within the last 24 hours.
This is around 13,000 more than the previous week.
Schleswig-Holstein in northern Germany also supported mandatory vaccination.
Monika Heinold, the state’s Deputy Minister President, stated Tuesday that due to the “dramatic developments” of the pandemic as well as the hospital situation, it was necessary to introduce a general vaccination obligation.She spoke to German news agency dpa.
According to the German Interdisciplinary Association for Intensive Care and Emergency Medicine’s online registry, the number COVID-19 patients who required intensive care in the last 24 hours has increased by approximately 140 and climbed almost to 4,000.
Angela Merkel, the Chancellor, had previously rejected a general vaccination obligation.
Jens Spahn, the acting Minister of Health, continued to reject compulsory vaccination.
Spahn stated on Tuesday that it would not solve our acute problems and that the effect would be too late.”
