Bengaluru 10th August : The Karnataka High Court in an important decision has stated that the massive violence that erupted in DJ Halli and KG Halli localities of Bengaluru in response to an online post was an act of terrorist acts’.
The High Court has rejected the bail petitions of the accused Atiq Ahmad, along with others, on Wednesday in connection with the incident.

Following a post on social media about Prophet Mohammad the city witnessed massive violent incidents in the month of August in 2020 in DJ Halli and KG Halli police station limits.Three persons were killed and scores wounded in the violence.

The violent mob attempted to burn down the police station and set fire to it.They also burned down the house of a sitting Congress MLA’s residence.

The bench comprised of Justice K.Somashekar and Justice Shivashankar Ammannanavar noted that the mob of violent people gathered at the police station who were threatening the police with iron rods, bottles stuffed with gasoline and inciting violence could be classified as acts that create fear in the general public.

The bench also said that the accused had gathered on the spot to carry out an act of terror, as described in the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) charge sheet.

“This case is subject to Section 45 D (5) of UAPA Act.The allegations contained in the document appear to be true” the court stated.

Mohammad Tahir, the counsel for the accused, argued that the testimony of witnesses who were interviewed by the City Crime Branch (CCB) and later with the NIA are not the same.”NIA has altered the statements of witnesses to suit its needs.The suspects did not participate in the violence,” he added.

Public Prosecutor P.Prasanna Kumar stated that the accused shouldn’t be released on bail unless their involvement in the case has been proven.
