Mahoba, UP (Nov 19) Prime Minister Narendra Modi lashed out Friday at ‘previous government in Lucknow and Delhi for creating the Bundelkhand water crisis.
The Prime Minister declared that the “wait for water” was over at a rally marking the official inauguration of Arjun Sahayak.
More than four million people will have access to clean water. This scheme will be of benefit to the peoples of Mahoba and Banda as well as Hamirpur, Lalitpur, and Hamirpur.
Bundelkhand was, he said, once a great example of water management and conservation. The region was made famous by rivers like Betwa and Dhasan.
When Lord Ram was exiled, the land of Bundelkhand gave blessings to him. But, Delhi and UP’s rulers never contributed to its growth. He said that earlier governments had mistreated the area.
According to the Prime Minister, water problems in the area led people to refuse to marry their daughters there. This caused migration.
The mafia was able to thrive because the previous government, which was family-oriented, destroyed natural resources.
The mafia was destroyed after Yogi Adityanath became president. But you must not forget the past governments’ actions to you.He stated that scams and commissions were common in their system.
According to him, the Arjun Sahayak Yajana was not embraced by the former government because it worked to loot while we serve. He said, “Some people do politics of problems while we do politics of solutions.”
Modi stated that the Bundelkhand will be given a fresh lease of life by the new scheme.
He said that more than 30 lakh families had benefited from the “nal sejal” scheme.
The Arjuna Sahayak irrigation scheme, worth Rs 2,655 Crore, was launched to relieve water shortages in districts such as Mahoba and Hamirpur, and also to help farmers.
This mega-project on the Dhasan river will provide irrigation services to more than 1.5 lakh farmers from the 168 villages in Mahoba Banda, Hamirpur and Banda. It will also allow for the supply of potable water to 45,000 families living in areas with limited water resources.
Along with other projects, the project will be of great benefit to crop growers.
This project was started almost a decade ago in 2009-10.It will make Bundelkhand more green and help with irrigation on around 44,382 ha of land in Mahoba Hamirpur Banda.
In addition to this, 15,104-hectares of irrigation capacity will be also restored.Mahoba will have access to 20 MCM of drinking water from Kabrai Dam.
The program will benefit nearly 1,49,755 farmers from 168 villages.
The government spokesperson stated that the Arjun Sahayak project, started in 2009-10, at Rs.850 crore was expected to be finished in 2015.
The neglect of previous governments caused the delay in the project’s completion and increased its cost to Rs 2655.36 lakh.
Bundelkhand has faced severe water scarcity for a long time.
Most wells and hand pumps have been shut down by decreasing groundwater levels.Residents in drought-prone areas were forced to purchase basic necessities like drinking water.
The government has completed Rasin Dam Project, Chitrakoot, Bandai Dam Project, Lalitpur, in an effort to solve the region’s water crisis. It was done between March 1, 2020 and March 31, 2021.
Projects like Shahzad Bundelkhand and Kulpahar will be a great example for the state in the future. They are connected to the sprinkler systems.
This will allow for more irrigation with less water, and will increase the yield.
