Telangana BJP Senior leader N Indrasena Reddy has been appointed as Governor of Tripura.But the Opposition congress, within hours took a strong objection to it.
The grand old party said that the appointment comes when the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) is in force in Telangana in connection with Assembly elections to be held in the state on 30 November.
The President of India Droudpadi Murmu appointed Indrasena Reddy Nallu as Governor of Tripura and Raghubar Das as Governor of Odisha.
A press communiqué from Rashtrapati Bhavan said the appointments would come into effect from the dates they assume charge of their respective offices.
Responding to the appointment of Indrasena Reddy as Tripura Governor, TPCC senior vice-president G Niranjan said no appointments should be made during the enforcement of MCC.
In a letter to the Election Commission of India (ECI), Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Rajiv Kumar, Niranjan said, “We were astonished to see the following communication, from the office of the President of India, which is against the MCC as the election schedule has been announced by the ECI for the elections in five states including Telangana.”
He said Indrasena Reddy’s appointment would attract the MCC as he is from Telangana where elections would be conducted on 30 November.
This appointment has been done to influence the voters in Telangana, he said, adding that, unfortunately, the Rashtrapati Bhavan itself was violating the MCC.
He requested the ECI to take appropriate steps in this regard to withdraw the appointment.
