The demolition of the Babri mosque in Ayodhya on December 6, 1992, was not planned and involved “anti-social elements” who got agitated and climbed the domes, a court in Uttar Pradesh said today, acquitting all 32 accused including BJP leaders LK Advani, Murli Manohar Joshi and Uma Bharti of conspiracy charges in a landmark verdict.“The accused tried to stop the demolition,” said special judge Surendra Kumar Yadav, adding that merely giving a provocative speech was not enough to prove guilt.

Nearly thirty years after the Babri Masjid was razed by a mob in Uttar Pradesh, a special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court in Lucknow on Wednesday acquitted all 32 accused, including BJP leaders LK Advani, Murli Manohar Joshi, and Uma Bharti, citing lack of evidence.BJP leaders LK Advani and Murali Manohar Joshi welcomed the verdict.

he court said there was no conclusive proof against the accused.“They have been acquitted for lack of evidence,” defence lawyer KK Mishra said.

Twenty-six out of the 32 accused were present in the special court when the judgment was pronounced.The case relates to the razing of the disputed structure in Ayodhya on December 6, 1992.
