Four grain cargo ships leave Ukrainian ports

Istanbul 7 August : The fourth of the cargo ships filled with maize and sunflower oil have left Ukrainian ports according to the Turkish Defence Ministry announced on Sunday.
In a tweet that was posted on Twitter, the Ministry stated that the vessels headed to China, Turkey and Italy will stop in Istanbul to be inspected, as reported by the DPA news agency.

Eight freighters have left Ukraine following the agreement that ended a port blockade caused by war was signed late last month.

Under the agreement, Ukraine pledged to guide the ships through waters which have been mined .Russia has promised not to target the vessels and ports.

The shipment is thought to be vital to stabilize the price of grain on the global market amid fears of the threat of famine in the Middle East and Africa.

This week, the cargo ship Razoni was the first vessel to leave Ukraine to go to Lebanon with Ukrainian grain, since the Russian war in started on February 24.

The ship will not arrive in the final location in Lebanon this Sunday, as initially planned, however the Ukrainian Embassy in Beirut stated.

The Embassy has not provided an explanation for the delay.

“The announcement regarding the event will be released after we receive details about the exact date and time of the arrival of the vessel,” the mission said in an announcement.

Ukraine is often referred to as the breadbasket of Europe was the world’s biggest exporter of sunflower oil and the third biggest exporter of barley and rapeseeds and barley; the fourth-largest exporter of maize and the fifth-largest exporter of wheat prior to when Russia began its continuous invasion of the continent.
