Washington 22nd, August : US Representative Liz Cheney has pledged to continue her campaign against Donald Trump and his supporters despite her loss in the polls for a fervent Trump supporter.In an ABC News interview on Sunday, Cheney touted her new political action committee that targets people who support Trump’s disputed assertion that the 2020 election was stolen from him according to the DPA news agency.
“I’m going to be extremely focused on ensuring that we accomplish everything that we can (to) not .choose those who oppose elections,” she said.”I’m going to be working against those who are a threat to democracy.I’m determined with them to help their opponents.”
The three-term Congresswoman has criticized Trump’s influence over the Republican Party and bashed fellow Republicans after she lost her primary election in Wyoming with a margin of more than 35 points to her rival Harriet Hageman, who had Trump’s support.
“People remain convinced of in the falsehood.
They believe in what Cheney is saying, which is extremely risky,” Cheney said.
“Large sections of our party which includes the leaders of the party, both on an individual level in Wyoming as well as at the national scale with the (Republican National Committee) is extremely sick,” she added.
The daughter of former Vice President Dick Cheney rose to national notoriety with her strong denials of Trump’s incitement of the January 6 2021 Capitol protest.
She has been the one of the top Republican member of the House committee that is investigating the siege, and has drawn the ire of bigwigs from the party such as House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy.
With Republicans looking to gain the control of Congress in midterm elections Liz Cheney said McCarthy does not deserve to be speaker.
“He’s been totally unfaithful to the Constitution and displayed a complete absence of comprehension of the importance and importance of the function of the speaker,” she said.
She also slammed Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, who is thought to be a potential candidate in 2024 for the Republican presidential nomination.
“DeSantis is one of the people who is, at present running for election deniers,” Liz Cheney said.”That is something I think people ought to take a step back about.”
Republican Senators Ted Cruz of Texas and Josh Hawley of Missouri did not escape her fury also.
“Both made decisions that fundamentally questioned the constitution’s order and structure in the wake of the election of last year,” she fumed.”So, in my view they both made themselves unfit to serve in the future.”
Joe Biden called Cheney after her primary loss, she said.
“We had a great talk, a conversation about the importance of placing the country ahead of the partisanship of our country,” she recounted.
Liz Cheney has said she’s contemplating a presidential run of her own.
“Any decision I make regarding doing something is significant and serious will be with the goal of winning and because I believe that I’m the best choice for the job,”” she said on Sunday.
Although her opposition to Trump has won her the respect of numerous Democrats, Cheney pointed out that she is an Republican in heart.Actually, she voted with Trump 93 percent of the times that the terms of their respective presidents overlapped.
“I am a firm believer in Republican policies,” Cheney said.”I believe in a strong national defense I am a believer in lower taxes.I believe in an unrestricted government.”
As she exuded her Republican credentials, she threw in another attack on Trump and the people who support him.
“We cannot hope of winning elections if we’re in the position that our party has broken the principle and values, and has abandoned the fundamental respect of the Constitution in the name of embracing the religion of character.”
