Sydney, November 23, : , Former Australian wicketkeeper Ian Healy said that Steve Smith will be the captain for Ashes. This is despite the fact that Tim Paine was already the Test captain following the scandal of sexting.
Cricket Australia (CA), banned Smith and Cameron Bancroft for various periods, but not exceeding one-year, in relation to their roles in ball-tampering, also known as the Sandpaper-gate scandal, in South Africa’s 2018 Test series.
After the incident, Paine took over the Australian Test team’s leadership with Justin Langer as the head coach.Healy, an Australian legend believes that Smith being captain of Australian cricket will not be a good choice given what has happened in recent days.
We’re adding to the circus with Steve Smith being named after that episode (the Tim Paine interview).Healy said that he had no problem with Steve Smith being Australia’s captain again. He was also guilty of being lazy and paid the heavy price,” Healy stated on Sportsday with Satts & Jase.
Healy added, “Too many people think he was in South Africa scratching the ball. But if they have forgotten what happened, he wasn’t conscious enough to take over and stop it from happening.”
He was convicted of Smith’s crime and was given a one-year (ban).”So, while I have no issues, I do not believe he should be brought in to serve as vice-captain, or immediately after Paine’s misconduct.”
Healy spoke out about the subject of Paine’s resignation as captain after the scandal.Cricket Australia stated that Paine could resign, but Cricket Australia wanted him to continue.
Smith was Australia’s captain in 34 Test matches before 2018.He led Australia to 17 victories, 10 losses and six draws.Smith’s 61.8 average is second-highest among batsmen who have played in over 40 innings.
Australia may be considering Pat Cummins pace bowler to replace Paine.Smith is likely to become his deputy.
However, no decision has been made on the Ashes team leader, which will begin December 8.
