Shilpa Agnihotri’s new show Tere Ishq Mein Ghayal is being criticized for copying The Vampire Diaries.Agnihotri says it is not fair to compare the two shows because The Vampire Diaries took nine months to shoot one season with 13 episodes, whereas Tere Ishq Mein Ghayal has to shoot a season in 26-35 days.
She says that daily soaps have to be cut-to-cut and shooting for 17-18 hours every day is normal.
Agnihotri thinks it is better for showrunners in India to focus on what they are good at instead of copying the West.
However, she believes that everyone feels it’s worth giving it a shot. She gives an example of the success of shows about dayans and naagins.
She says she was hesitant to play the character of Vish Kanya when it was offered to her, but she did it anyway because it was something she had never done before. She believes that every show has its own destiny.
Agnihotri defends makers who embark on a journey to create a show that is not a flop and is not trolled by thousands. She explains that once the channel approves the project, makers have to get verifications, look into what the audience wants, and make changes accordingly.
She says that what they thought would work might not work in the end.
Agnihotri shares how a story was narrated to them, but it changed after they started shooting. She says that everyone has suggestions for improvement, and that is how TV works. She believes that there is not much space for creativity in TV, but producers are constantly trying to bring out something new.
