Mamata gives orders to CID inquiry into the murder of two schoolchildren

Kolkata 7th September : West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has on Wednesday ordered an investigation through the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) into the twin murders of school students Atanu De and Abhishek Naskar.
The police of the state have arrested four individuals in relation with the murder of the two students who were taken from Baguihati Kestopur in the northern outskirts of Kolkata fifteen days ago.The bodies of the two students were found in Basirhat in North 24 Parganas district a few days ago.

The arrested suspects are identified as Avijit Basu, Shamim Ali, Sahil Molla and Dipendra Bose.Another suspect, Satyendra Chowdhury, is still in hiding.

It was reported that the Chief Minister summoned DGP Manoj Malviya on Wednesday, and requested him to launch an CID investigation into the incident.

She also requested the DGP to take steps against the police officials who ignored the issue.

Then, Malviya issued an order for the CID investigation.

However the family members said that they don’t have any confidence in the CID investigation and instead would like to have the CBI to look into the case.

In the meantime, the state minister Firhad Hakim admitted that there was a lack of diligence from the side of the Baguiati police station, which delayed the registration of the incident by two days following the families of the victims contacted the police.

Hakim stated that the inspector in-charge of Baguiati police station Kallol Ghosh, has been suspended for the moment.

“We acknowledge that the Baguiati police station’s officials could be more proactive in the issue,” Hakim said.

The two students from the school were reported missing on August 22.However, despite being notified the same day the police in the Baguiati police station only registered the FIR on the 24th of August.

A day or two after their abduction The bodies of Atanu De and Abhishek Nair were discovered in Basirhat.At first the bodies were buried in the local mortuary, in the form of unclaimed bodies.

The local police had alerted all police stations of the state regarding the bodies that were not claimed however, the Baguiati police did not respond even after that.

Family members of the victims claimed that, despite advising the police of the ransom note they received but the police did not investigate the issue.
